Absolutely love this tree! Knitted in Sidar Funky Fur from LoveKnitting which completely hides all my little - uh - mis-knits!

Before moving on to share the collection of ornaments, I want to share this:

Knitting this tree and the tiny ornaments has truly been a lifesaver these past few months. There are no words to share how devastating it has been to lose my sweetheart. I won't even try. Judging from the outpouring of love all of you have sent to me, I am guessing explanations aren't necessary. You know. You understand. And most importantly, you have reminded me every single day that I am loved and appreciated and not alone.

Diane wisely understood that the best medicine for both of us was to return to creativity and making. The arrival of a huge bag of yarn ordered from LoveKnitting was perfectly timed. I printed out Mr. Dart's pattern and Diane and I disappeared frequently into a comfy corner of a coffee shop to lose ourselves in knitting.

Part of me is sad to be done actually. It has been a huge part of the past three months. But on the other hand, I am happy to have it completed both because it will serve as my Christmas tree this year and because I really do need to get busy on knitted gifts I have planned for Christmas giving.

Tiny prototype for next year!

But there is definitely more to come over the course of the coming year. There is a tree topper to be made. And I have decided to make 25 very small balls to serve as countdown markers.

At first, I was thinking to settle on one single ball design. And then, after class with Arne and Carlos, I started realizing there are so many possibilities for ways to create tiny numeral balls that I am going - eclectic!

The ball above - knit design by Arne and Carlos - from "55 Christmas Balls to Knit".  The numeral is Mr. Dart's design - part of the Advent Tree pattern. (I know - need to work on my duplicate stitch skills too!)

It's my prototype, and about all I needed to recognize that this will be a very good project for next year and a delightful way to include a whole slew of my "heros" on my advent tree! And that is all I am sharing for now!!!

Wanna see some of the ornaments?? My absolute pleasure to share! Here they are then!

Three of my favorites! The Sugar Mouse, Marzipan Pig and Polar Bear! (The polar bear holds the record for the most likes on Instagram! Definitely a scene stealer!)

Another favorite - the Straw Goat! I don't mind telling you I was pretty nervous when I began this one; but - as with all the others - just follow Mr. Dart's instructions. Before you know it you have a tiny adorable new ornament in your hands! And as you are admiring it, you are running over and over in your mind - "how did he do that"???

Of course everyone knows I am particularly partial to toadstools and gingerbread snowflakes!

Mr. Dart has included symbols for bundling up against the holiday chill - those mittens are only a couple inches long!

favorite holiday fruit…

a teensy elf...

and three festive hearts - gingerbread, candy cane and woven!

I modified a few designs - the original snowman did not have a scarf and the angel carries a little tree in the original pattern. But for the most part I stuck to the patterns.

The toughest part for me personally is probably joining the pieces together - but seriously, I am pretty bad at that joining stuff. In fact my joining skills pretty much stink! An yet - you can see before you the genius of Alan Dart - because even a novice such as myself can easily follow the simple knitting instructions and then join those pieces into a perfectly sweet little Advent ornament!

Just so you know, the Advent Tree pattern and the Christmas Tree Decorations are sold as separate patterns; so if you are not wanting to make a tree but are smitten by the ornaments, you can get that pattern separately. The ornaments are perfectly sized for big trees too!!!

58 days till Christmas! 28 days till Advent begins!! In crafty time that is almost tomorrow!!!

I really like this idea but

I really like this idea but my problem is that I don't know how to knit. I love to crochet though! Is there any kind of pattern for the tree that can be done with crocheting instead of knitting?

Thanks
Kayleene

Actually Kayleen, I do not

Actually Kayleen, I do not know if something similar exists in crochet.  There are certainly lots of trees - Planet June offers a pattern for a bobble tree that I have really enjoyed, but even the largest of the tree sizes offered is only about 7" tall.  I find crochet much more stressful than knitting so although I can do both, I am a knitter at heart.  You might try a search on google or Ravelry.
